Community Worship

Serve - Build - Share

The Mission

Hope for Renewal’s mission is to serve, build relationships, and share the love of Christ with those living in the Glenwood corridor in Youngstown, Ohio. We accomplish this mission as a non-profit 501c3 consisting of a Community Outreach Ministry, Community Worship Ministry, and a Community Outreach Center: Glenwood Grounds Cafe. Each ‘branch’ of Hope For Renewal’s ministry serves the Glenwood corridor while building relationships as we share the love of Christ in word and deed.

Worshipping Community

Hope for Renewal's Worshipping Community is an Evangelical Presbyterian church plant that meets at Glenwood Grounds every Sunday at 10AM. Service is followed by a community meal and time of fellowship.

What to Expect

  • We’re a relaxed community of worshippers who come before God each week in whatever state we find ourselves in. Everyone is welcome to come exactly as they are!
  • We believe that all human beings have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, needing salvation to be saved from the eternal consequences of sin: hell. We believe that salvation can only come by the work of God’s free grace, not by our own efforts.
  • We believe there is one God in three parts: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus was born to a virgin as the Holy Son of God and lived a perfect life, dying on the cross and resurrecting from the dead three days later. We believe that, because of His death and resurrection, we can be saved from the eternal consequences of sin (hell) and be brought into eternal life with Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit was sent to dwell in us, sealing us with Christ, and helping us live a life that glorifies God.
  • We believe the Church is composed of those who have been saved by God’s grace and are brought together by the Holy Spirit’s working in their lives, making them more like Christ day-by-day. At Hope For Renewal, this community of worshippers includes those who have been broken-down by life, lost hope, are finding their way back to God, or seeking Him for the first time.

Our pastors

Pastor Gary and his wife Cindy came to Youngstown in 1988 for Gary to accept a call at Tabernacle E.P. Church as Associate Pastor. In 2016, after twenty-eight years of ministry at Tabernacle Church, Gary and Cindy were called to a new church plant called Hope For Renewal. Located on the south side of Youngstown, specifically the Idora Neighborhood, Pastor Gary has been faithful to the call as Pastor/Exec. Director of Hope For Renewal ever since. They've watched God grow this church plant over the last eight years into the three branches of ministry it includes today. Pastor Gary and Cindy embody the mission of Hope For Renewal, leading by example in serving and building relationships in order to share the love of Christ and the Gospel message with those living in this community that they've been called to. They live each day trusting that God will use them to proclaim the Name of Jesus to those who are searching for answers and hope.

If you join us on Sunday mornings, you will find yourself welcomed by warm smiles, hugs, and immense kindness by the most genuine folks in Youngstown. You’ll hear beautiful worship, followed by a challenging word. Pastor Gary’s messages lead us to live in the light of Christ, overcoming the darkness around us that may sometimes feel overwhelming. Sermons can be challenging and encouraging as they center on the word of God without compromise. Sunday mornings hold traditional church elements with nontraditional application. If you grew up in church, you’ll find some of the traditions that bring you nostalgic comfort. If you’re brand new to church, you’ll feel right at home in a regular Cafe full of people who love God and will love you too - there just happens to be some worship involved!
